Review: Afternoon Tea at The Marriott Hotel and a Competition to Win an Experience Days £50 Voucher (CLOSED)

Who doesn’t like receiving gifts, eh, or are you more a giver? I prefer a bit of both, but err towards giving, as I’m not so good with feigning delight when something isn’t quite to my liking – I’m always grateful though.

Experience Days are an online company that offer a wide range of experiences such as: a pampering day at a spa, or horse-riding, or go-karting, or cooking lessons, which you can do yourself or buy as a gift. You can select these by price and location, which is good if you have a certain amount to spend, as you can tailor your search accordingly.

I was recently asked if I would like to try one. Of course, I said yes, and of course, I opted for something food related. My choice was an Afternoon Tea for two at the swanky, Marriott Hotel, Park Lane. You may recall I reviewed one a while ago, that was lacking in more ways than one, but they certainly know what they are doing at the Marriott.

Seated at a table overlooking a bit of Hyde Park – mostly the Marble Arch roundabout – we were promptly served with a glass of champagne. There’s an extensive selection of teas to choose from – I opted for the classic Breakfast. A three-tiered stand featuring the classics you’d expect from an Afternoon Tea shortly followed – all freshly made and mostly to a high standard.

One of the scones was slightly overdone and dry, and a mini banoffee cake was far too sweet and buttery, but there were enough good things on there that more than made up for those little shortcomings. There was a nice mix of vintage and contemporary crockery too, bringing a very quaint dining habit into modern times.

An Afternoon Tea back-in-the-day was eaten to take the edge of any hunger pangs before dinner (I’m from the south, I don’t call dinner tea btw), served from between 3pm-6pm. The amount of food on offer at the Marriott was plentiful and filling, so much so, that I didn’t need to eat again for the rest of the evening.

My experience of an Afternoon Tea at the Marriott Hotel was pure indulgence, and fairly priced at £56 for two – it’s not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Service was smart and professional, if a little slow at times, as we’d asked for some extra cream and jam that didn’t turn up until the end of the meal. Overall though, it was a lovely experience.
