Yuu Kitchen is a right gem of a place located on the Aldgate end of Commercial Street. It’s a fusion-style restaurant bringing South East Asian and Pacific Rim flavours to the table. The décor is busy with Manga-style pop art, but it’s also inviting. I recommend taking a perch at the open kitchen bar to see the action unfold as the chefs create dishes crafted by Aussie duo Stephen Lowe previously of Icebar and Jon de Villa previously of Nobu.

Soft Shelled Crab Bao

7UP Braised Pork Bao
The food is very good and served on trendy small plates. My friend and I ate our way through a lot of the menu ranging from fluffy clouds of Bao filled with crisp, soft shelled crab in one and 7UP Braised Pork in another to Seared Tuna in a drunken soy sauce. The seasoning is a little hit a miss in a couple of the dishes. The crab bao is under seasoned and Scallop, Prawn and Chive Dumplings, over. Other than that the dishes as a whole are tasty and on point.

BBQ’d Octopus
My top three must-try dishes are: 1. Baby Back Ribs, these achingly tender, fall-off-the bone ribs are heavenly and packed full of punchy flavours 2. BBQ’d Octopus, mouth-wateringly good, soft sweet meat with a delicious outer char from the Big Green Egg. And last but by no means least 3. Sweet and Sticky Eggplant is a revelation. It’s super sweet and could almost pass as a dessert but slightly bitter crispy shallots peppered throughout keeps it balanced. It’s a sexy dish.
