Trafalagar Tavern: A lovely historic pub on the banks of the Thames

London on the a whole has a pretty good transportation network. One mode of transport I hadn’t got round to using was the Thames River Cruise. However, a few weeks ago I got the opportunity to travel on one.It was a fun experience taking in the sights as it zigzagged its way up the Thames. My drop off point was Greenwich to visit The Trafalgar Tavern.

The Trafalgar Tavern sits on the banks of the Thames and opened in 1837. It was often visited by the likes of Charles Dickens and William Thackery. Nowadays its clientele is a mixture of locals and tourists. I was there to experience their event space situated on the first floor. What hits you as you enter the first of three reception rooms  are the stunning views overlooking the Thames and the Millennium Dome in the distance. The pub is steeped in history, which is reflected in its Regency architecture with old photos and paintings adorning the walls.

Strawberry Cheesecake

A champagne reception in the smaller of the rooms was followed by a selection of simple, but classic canapés. We then moved into the larger reception room where we were served a three-course meal: Salmon and Beetroot Salad, Rump of Lamb with Seasonal Vegetables and Strawberry Cheesecake. The food was good: the salmon dish fresh and vibrant, the lamb course tender and tasty and the cheesecake very moreish. All impeccably served by the waiting staff.
