Recipe Review and Giveaway: Lemon Cupcake and Dr.Oetker Products (CLOSED)

You might have noticed that there aren’t any baking recipes of the sweet kind on here. That’s due to the fact that I have more of a savoury tooth than I do sweet. Given the choice of two courses on a menu, I will always order a starter and main, over a main and dessert any day. In saying that though, I do crave the occasional sweet treats.

I’ve never been much of a baker, as I often get impatient with the precise measurements of it all, where even a little error can lead to a not-so-great result. But, a few weeks ago I happened to go to Dr. Oekter’s ‘baking trends showcase’. There a panel made up of industry aficionados such as Ed Kimber (The Great British Bake Off winner, 2010) and Sarah Trivuncic of Maison Cupcake, mentioned that the use of ‘bright colours’ will be one of the key features in baking, this amongst other things. Whilst there I was given the opportunity to decorate biscuits and cupcakes, which was fun, and got me thinking that maybe I should give it a go at home. So I did.

I used this Dr.Oetker lemon cupcake recipe, which they very kindly supplied the ingredients for. And you know, it was dead easy. I often find the ratio of icing to cake too much, so it was good that I could adjust the amount that I put on to suit. It was a really messy process cleaning the piping bag afterwards, but so worth it. Light and fluffy cakes with a lemony zest, and bang on trend with its bright yellow colour!
