Fancy a fun night out with your mates making pizza? Well, Pizza Express offer an Adult Pizza Making Party. I attended one with a bunch of fellow bloggers at the newly spruced 895 Fulham Road branch. It is set over two floors and the décor is inspired by two of Fulham’s historical characters, designer and potter William De Morgan and explorer, William John Burchell. Warm, dark panelling and crisp bright ceilings provide a beautiful contrast, which enclose a mix of marble and wood tables, a side bar and Pizziaola kitchen space. The night starts with glasses of Prosecco and nibbles of olives, sun-dried tomatoes, dough balls and cheesy garlic bread, before heading downstairs with Chef John and host Maria for some pizza making action.
Aprons on and chef hats donned Chef John talks us through the making of the dough, which is already prepped and portioned. We’re taught how to stretch the dough into shape and the fun starts with the flipping and tossing. A Prize goes to the ‘Biggest Tosser’. I didn’t win this. We then top our pizza bases with toppings of our choosing. It’s hard not to get carried away, but I kept mine fairly simple – meat, few veg and a hint of fresh chilli. We’re told it’s best not to overload the pizza or the pizza base won’t cook properly. And nobody likes a soggy bottom!
Pizza in the making
Chef John carts our pizzas off to cook and we return upstairs for more Prosecco whilst we await the results of our creations. I’m pleased to say that I loved mine, but I overindulged on the dough balls earlier and couldn’t finish it all. It was a fab fun night and the Pizza Making Party would be a great thing to do for a celebratory occasion or perhaps corporate events.
