With its dark, slick, interior and loud pumping music, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve entered into a nightclub. But no, Mamounia is a classy Middle-Eastern restaurant set in the prime location of Mayfair.
The DJ and live set, blasts modern tunes mixed with Arabian music. This fusion filters through to the menu, where a few middle-eastern dishes get a European remix. This can be seen in dishes such as the Lobster Tagine or in the Truffle Hoummous. The Lobster Tagine is a dish worth placing in the Top Ten, it’s a hit, which successfully manages to fuse strong middle-eastern flavours, with the sea saltiness of samphire and slight bitter note from the asparagus. Other dishes that make the chart are a platter of Merguez, Makanek and Sojuk Sodah sausages, soft squidgy (but not rubbery) halloumi topped with sesame seeds and beautifully rose water scented, buttered couscous.
Mezze
Friend and fellow blogger Rosana, has the Beef Fillet cooked to order, with Jerusalem artichokes, celeriac puree and girolle mushrooms – it too is a hit. Two dishes which don’t quite make the Top Ten is the Calamari, which suffers from a little underseasoning and the Chocolate Fondant, which lacked a rich chocolate taste.
We’re there on a Saturday night where an energetic belly-dancer gyrates around the tables entertaining diners. It’s fun to watch, with some other diners choosing to participate in some dance moves too. If you fancy something less hectic though, Mamounia do offer the quieter shisha area outside.
Mamounia is a place best suited to groups, celebrations or those looking for a lively, loud, night out. And considering its prime Mayfair location, the prices here are reasonable too; mezze/starters from £5.50, mains from £13 and desserts from £6.

Lobster tagine sounds so wonderfully decadent!
Hey Fede, not gonna lie it totally was! It surprisingly had a real depth of flavour too – really good 🙂
That was an excellent dinner and venue is stunning! Loved my dish and the belly dancer too! Thanks Tash and let’s go back there soon 😉

Was a fun eve, thanks for coming. I’d go back and give the belly-dancer a run for her money – I’ve got some moves, lol. x
