Shoreditch really isn’t short of decent places to eat and is home to cuisines from all over the world from Vietnamese to Turkish. Amici Miei (translates as ‘My Friend’) adds to the nix with their Italian restaurant located at the Hoxton end of Kingsland Road. I don’t know what the restaurant looked like before, but it’s recently had a refurb – perhaps to keep up with the hipster food venues in the area. Whatever the reason it’s not over-styled, but modern, clean and cosy.
Frittura Di Mare
The menu is unfussy with a good selection of pizza, pasta, meat and fish. The pasta, pizzas and desserts are all made freshly on the premise from scratch. So of course I have to try some of these and I chose the Crab Ravioli for main and Amaretto Parfait for dessert. To start though, I opt for the Frittura di Mare, which is a deep fried squid and prawns. It’s beautifully fried in a light coating of batter and served with a mayo sauce that has a good kick of garlic. My friend has the Burrata with Heritage Tomatoes to start, Malloreddus alla Campidanese, which is a traditional Sardinian pasta with sausages and pecorino for main and Panna Cotta for dessert. She enjoys all the dishes with burrata being the highlight. I have no complaints with my meal too, its all very good, nicely prepared and comforting.
Amici Miei serves good quality rustic Italian food with warm and friendly service.
Antipasti from £5, pasta from £7, main from £10, pizza from £7.5 and desserts from £5.
